For Immediate Release, May 19, 2017
Fonner Park announces effective today, Friday, May 19, that simulcasting of the Preakness and interstate simulcasting has been suspended due to the inability to reach an agreement with the Horsemen's Benevolent Protective Association (HBPA).
Fonner Park has submitted three proposals to the HBPA in the last nine days, the final proposal being submitted today, Friday, May 19. All three proposals have been rejected by President Barry Lake and the HBPA.
Fonner Park has therefore requested an immediate public hearing with the Nebraska State Racing Commission. The inability to reach an agreement with the horsemen is having a detrimental effect on Fonner Park and on horse racing in Nebraska.
