What We Know For Now

 March 17, 2020

The inevitable occurred in Grand Island when the global, national and local measures to combat the COVID-19 outbreak struck our Fonner Park Thoroughbred racing season. As a result, Fonner Park racing has been canceled, suspended/closed indefinitely. Whichever way you want to digest it, Fonner Park horse racing will not continue until further notice.

What does this mean?

Fonner Keno and Finish Line Restaurant Lounge will remain open until further notice.

If you have made a reserved seating purchase for a date after March 15, 2020, please kindly mail the tickets with your contact & purchase information or return them in person to Fonner Park. 308-382-4515.

Please expect to face heavy phone traffic when you call Fonner Park in the weeks to come.

A decision will be made soon regarding the horses presently stabled at Fonner Park; until that time, it will be business as usual on the racetrack backside – just no racing. Fonner Park will be discussing this matter with horsemen and horsewomen, the Nebraska HBPA and the Nebraska State Racing Commission.

All seasonal racing staff (mutuel tellers, food service, admissions, etc.) are asked to please contact their supervisors for directives.

Events scheduled within the Fonner Park grandstand/clubhouse facility (car, motorcycle, and craft shows) will have additional information to follow. Also, standby for news on music scheduled in the Skyline Pub.

I am sorry for our loss and your loss. We are not alone. WE share the pain – as do hundreds of millions of people across our nation who are dealing with this crisis.

Sincerely and sadly,

Chris Kotulak
Fonner Park CEO
